Squids and Sweaters and Gifts, Oh My!

A Christmas in July--er, August story! Lily was so nervous. She looked in the mirror to see how her Christmas shirt had come together, but the present sitting on her bed, the floofed green tissue paper standing at attention caught her eye instead. That was what she was nervous about. But not her sweater. Well, … Continue reading Squids and Sweaters and Gifts, Oh My!

“Along for the Ride”

#FlashFictionFriends inspired by Sarah Dessen titles I gasped when I saw the prompts of #flashfictionfriends for June. Sarah Dessen and her stories have my heart forever and ever. Washed Ashore

This story started out as a contemplative beach scene. Then it became a story about a miniature tabaxi, Kettle, finding a mermaid on an island. And that's what I was set on refining for this week's story, but on the way home from the fair, I listened to "Long Live" by Taylor Swift. My favorite line is: "...for a moment a band of thieves in ripped up jeans got to rule the world" and I wondered if I could write a story about a band and name their song "Washed Ashore." I shared the idea with Ant and he was intrigued by it! So I ran with it and you have the story you just read. It's magical to me what two words can become and how many ideas can come from just two words.

Tick Tock

The first in a series simply called #flashfictionmagic over on social media The imp’s long read fingers gripped the rusted clock, cracking the glass face, the roman numerals— Did they just quiver? Sasha stared as the VI actually tilted backward and slipped out from under the glass. “What?” she gasped; hands clenched at her side. … Continue reading Tick Tock
